Many rural hospitals are willing to take health sciences students for elective attachments. Usually preference is given to South African students, but it is important to book places well in advance, as places are often limited.

There are a number of places to find out useful information about hospitals. RuDASA is in the process of creating a database of rural hospitals in South Africa, which have indicated that they are willing to take elective students, particularly South African elective students. Below are details of just a few hospitals that have thus far requested to be listed on this site. Students are advised to contact them directly. RuDASA does not take responsibility for the accuracy of the information provided, which is supplied by the hospitals themselves.

The University of the Witwatersrand Faculty of Health Sciences Electives Office offers a service particularly for overseas elective students. Go to http://www.wits.ac.za/fac/med/, click on "students - electives."

The Christian Medical Fellowship in South Africa also offers some
assistance with finding appropriate hospitals for electives for Christian
