There are 18 beds available in two cottages at Xora mouth. Delegates staying here will have to wake up early, be rowed across the river and will enjoy a +/- 2km walk along the beach to Bulungula for the conference. These cottages would be ideal for a larger group of doctors/nurses.

There is ample camping space available which is situated under milkwood trees on an idyllic dune overlooking the sea. Campers must be prepared to be woken up by the sun rising over the sea. Price: R30 per person/night

Catering will be provided by Benjie Gain from Mcantsi Restaurant in Kidd's Beach. Please let me know as soon as possible if you have any special requirements. The cost of tea, lunch and dinner on the 8th August will be included in the registration fee. Breakfast on the 8th August will be an additional cost.

However any car will be able to make it to Madwaleni Hospital where parking is available. The local doctors will transport most people from Madwaleni to Bulungula, but official transport is available at R30 per person.

Transport direct from Umtata to Bulungula costs R50 per person and there are only 18 places available. Please book at the same time as you book your accommodation, call Dave on 047 577 8900.

For those with 4x4s and who fancy testing their vehicles, the drive to Bulungula can be very exciting! Other vehicles (bakkies/vans) are able to get to the lodge with this road but they will not be able to leave the village if it rains as the road becomes impassable for non-4x4 vehicles.

  • From Mthatha take the N2 towards East London, take the Coffee Bay turn-off (left).
  • After 50km turn right onto a dirt road (Bulungula signposted).
  • Turn right after 17km.
  • After 13km you reach a walled shop, after which you take a right fork after 800m - and another right fork 7 km later.
  • Follow the "Bulungula 4x4" signs.
  • At the end of the road follow the orange painted stones to the Lodge.
