RuDASA Conference Programme 2010

There will be an opportunity to hone clinical skills and to address rural health issues, with a focus on HIV/TB, task shifting and health care management. We have an exciting and topical programme lined up and participatory group discussions.

  • Plenary Sessions will focus on creative ways of funding health care and personal accounts of having made a difference.
  • Skills Training Programme includes treating Kaposi Sarcoma at a rural hospital, managing snakebites, performing a circumcision, new developments in mental health care and developing a decentralised DR-TB programme.
  • Scientific Programme where delegates can present their achievements. Please submit your abstract! Five oral presentations or posters grouped around a similar theme will be discussed during these sessions, with time for participation.
  • Medical Training track will be relevant to student participants, as well as in-depth discussions of medical training needs. Look out for the debate on the hot issue of mid-level health workers: Experts from Mozambique, Botswana, Malawi and South Africa will outline advances made in these countries.
  • The traditional Focus on Advocacy promises to be vigorous, given the participation of the new Rural Health Advocacy Unit.  For the first time there will be a track dedicated entirely to debating policy issues and formulating Resolutions. Please send in your request for topics to be discussed!
  • Health Care professionals interested in Rehabilitation will be able to attend useful multi-disciplinary sessions.

The Social Programme caters for the whole family with activities for spouses and children. We recommend a post-conference tour through the nearby Ezulwini Valley or Game Parks.
